Tamworth Borough Council is completing one of its council-wide improvement projects to meet IEG (Implementing Electronic Government) requirements with help from public sector IT specialist, Comino. Electronic document management (EDM) and workflow from Comino, ensures Tamworth can increase responsiveness, improve efficiency and comply with legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act (FOI).
Comino’s EDM and workflow system makes it easier for councils to meet a number of electronic Government requirements, whilst streamlining processes and improving overall security. Access to records is restricted by authorisation rights and can be achieved from an officer’s desktop, significantly reducing the daily paper chase.
Initially, Tamworth’s Development and Building Control Officers will use Comino’s EDM for scanning, saving and indexing plans and application forms and the workflow element for progressing, routing and escalating applications to the relevant officer.
Tamworth went through the EU tendering process and selected Comino based on system functionality and a competitive price. Comino’s workflow capability won over the Tamworth project team with its intelligent usability.
Neil Stokell, Chief Information Officer, Tamworth Borough Council, comments, “We chose Comino for their undoubted experience in the field, professional approach to training and implementation and for the powerful workflow engine in the product. It is too early to measure the benefits of the system’s introduction but the early indications are favourable.”
Tamworth’s long term objective is to roll-out Comino across the entire Council. During 2006, at least one other department in the Council will begin using the Comino system.
