ANNUAL CONFERENCE
lord stevens This year’s Civica annual conference was the biggest yet, attended by almost 700 delegates from across local government, social housing and enforcement sectors. Interesting insights were provided by keynote speakers, Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE, Lord Stevens and Ken Livingstone and after dinner entertainment from Frankie Boyle. The exhibitor showcase was the largest to date, including 55 sponsors and partners.

CASE STUDY
New Dimension Project - Equipping the Fire and Rescue Service
fire engine
The New Dimension project was established following the 11 September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre. The project supplies equipment and procedures to enhance the capability of the fire and rescue service to respond to a range of threats, including terrorist threats, major industrial accidents and natural disasters. A multi-agency response to a major incident would involve the fire and rescue service as well as police and ambulance.

Civica’s Tranman fleet management system has been chosen to support this key programme by VT Critical Services, which has been selected by the Department for Communities and Local Government to manage capability management for the New Dimension fleet of emergency vehicles and equipment modules which will be deployed to major incidents.

The force has engaged Civica to extend the existing ANPR installation on the M25 motorway. The installation follows significant investment by both the Police and the County Council to establish a shared network of cameras that deliver vehicle movement data for intelligence and Journey Time Monitoring purposes.

Following a recent upgrade to provide the latest gateway technology for PNC access, the force has taken delivery of the new Auditor application from Civica. This application increases the level of governance around access to sensitive data and has been jointly developed with the force with a recent review by the HMIC. The implementation is currently going through a testing programme before being rolled out across the force.

What does your role involve?
I have been with Civica for almost 9 years. Throughout this time I have been with the Police Business Unit. Initially I was responsible for scoping solutions based around our software and specifying suitable hardware to meet customer requirements for PNC Access and ANPR. I was also responsible for the implementation and support of the solutions. I now have responsibility for managing the software development teams, whilst still specifying solutions and hardware.

What are the best aspects of your job?
My previous roles within the IT industry were predominantly with computer manufacturers or resellers. This role enables me to experience a wider range of technology outside the world of traditional IT. With this role I also get to see the results of our labours i.e. we get feedback from our customers on the results obtained by using our solutions. It gives great satisfaction knowing we have implemented a solution that helps catch “the bad guys”.

What are your favourite interests?
Movies and movie technology, mountain biking and skiing. Football (Arsenal, currently very frustrating)!
arsenal fc

What is your favourite film?

I like a very wide range so long as they are original and interesting. I dislike American comedies (they’re just not funny) and films that have a happy America saves the world again ending.

What is your favourite food?
Asian and Italian (but not at the same time)!
